Yesterday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. During a working trip to the Dnipropetrovsk region, the head of state, together with an American delegation led by US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Bigan, visited the production site of a complex of continuous casting machines No. 2 and 3.
During the visit, the guests were able to assess the scale of construction of two new two-position ladle furnaces and CCM-2, 3 with a total design capacity of 2.8 million tons per year. It is now one of the company's key investment projects worth more than $ 160 million and is part of a larger program aimed at modernizing the plant and improving environmental performance.
After the commissioning of CCM-2, 3 and the completion of the reconstruction of the light section mill 250-4, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will be able to increase the production of reinforcement using cast billets. This will allow the company to increase its efficiency and offer more quality products in the domestic and world markets.
Mauro Longobardo, General Director of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih:
- It is a great honor for our company to host the current head of state for the first time. We are grateful to Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his attention to ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and its development program. Using the example of CCM-2, 3, we wanted to show that ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih invests in its facilities and actively contributes to the development of Ukraine. For almost fifteen years of work in the country, we have invested $ 9.7 billion. In the next 3-4 years, we are going to allocate $ 700 million to implement large investment projects, each of which has an environmental component and at the same time allows us to improve the quality and efficiency of our activities. Among the most important projects that we plan to build from scratch is a modern pelletizing plant, which will become our flagship for green investments.
In addition to the development of production, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is ready to support the development of the Ukrainian economy in another way. The enterprise is a reliable partner of the state in the implementation of large infrastructure projects. For example, in 2018-2019. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih supplied a total of 13 thousand tons of reinforcing bars for the construction and reconstruction of various bridges in Ukraine. And from May 2020, he began supplying metallurgical slags for use in large road construction.
Being the largest mining and metallurgical enterprise in Ukraine, we understand our responsibility to the city, region, country. At the same time, as part of ArcelorMittal, we work according to the best international standards. The company, as before, is ready to cooperate with government authorities at all levels and focuses on the development of productive and mutually beneficial relationships. Only in this way, through joint efforts, we will be able to turn the Ukrainian metallurgy into an efficient and competitive industry.
