Specialists of the Chinese company CISDI will spend three months at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih welcomes guests - specialists from the Chinese company CISDI, which is a partner in the implementation of a key investment project. The contract for the reconstruction of the largest blast furnace at the enterprise No. 9 worth $ 30 million was signed in 2019. It includes the development of engineering, the supply of main equipment, supervision of installation and commissioning, as well as training of the steel mill personnel. Yesterday, March 22, representatives of the Ukrainian companies STEM and M.Technology, which are CISDI's subcontractors in the modernization of the furnace, also took part in a welcoming meeting with Chinese specialists.

CISDI is a part of the state corporation of the People's Republic of China MinMetals and is one of the world leaders in the implementation of engineering projects for the metallurgical industry. A meeting with partners at the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih production site was planned at the first stages of the project discussion. But last year it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the entry into force of tough quarantine restrictions around the world. As a result, the project schedule was revised and re-approved jointly with CISDI. The specialists of the Chinese company will spend about three months in Kryvyi Rih to complete the basic engineering, preparation of the "Project" stage and the ATS report.

Dong Long, Project Manager, CISDI, China:

- Our goal is to implement everything planned, to make the project as effective as possible. We have many tasks before us, but we have a large team of highly qualified specialists capable of covering the entire technological process of a blast furnace. We have already visited the "nine", got acquainted with the objects of the complex live. I would like to thank ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih for the warm welcome and good organization.

Goutam Pinapotu, Blast Furnace # 9 Reconstruction Project Manager, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih:

- Reconstruction of blast furnace No. 9 will allow us to present a new technology in the production of pig iron - we will build a modern blast furnace that will fully comply with environmental standards. Our Chinese partners have rich experience in implementing such projects. This is a truly professional team. The result of our joint work will be successful, we will make every effort for this.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has four blast furnaces. "Nine" is the largest of them, its useful volume exceeds 5,000 cubic meters. It produces about half of all pig iron at the plant and is still considered one of the largest in Europe. Comprehensive modernization of blast furnace No. 9 will allow it to efficiently operate for the next 20 years, achieve the maximum level of pulverized coal fuel use (up to 200 kilograms per ton of pig iron), reduce the coke equivalent (total fuel consumption - gas, coal and coke) and, accordingly, reduce the cost of pig iron .

Some aspects of the design required additional discussion, in particular, regarding the installation of aspiration and pre-cleaning systems for blast furnace gas, as well as electrical equipment. As a result, the decision was made to modernize the aspiration system using bag filter technology and install two new axial cyclones instead of the currently operating dust collectors. Reconstruction of aspiration units will reduce dust emissions to less than 35 milligrams per normal cubic meter (mg /Nm3), and process gas cleaning - to a level not higher than 5 mg /Nm3. This will provide an opportunity to significantly improve environmental performance. The project also provides for 100% granulation of blast furnace slag with optimal water consumption using modern dewatering drum technology.

As a result of the modernization, a new blast furnace shell with increased thickness, a modern refractory lining of the furnace hearth with a ceramic glass, a new closed-type cooling system using copper cooling plates and cast iron refrigerators will function. A flat casting yard with new equipment will be in operation: hydraulic machines, a bell-less feeder and probes for measuring the charge level.

By this time, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih had already completed a large order for new equipment from leading international companies: machines for the foundry yard manufactured by DHM, furnace shell from Danieli Corus, furnace top from CISDI, carbon block from Takoi COBEX, foundry yard and warehouse aspiration systems from Sinosteel. The company is also negotiating with various local and international contractors to carry out construction work.

Thanks to the modernization of the furnace, its capacity will increase to 10,000 tons of pig iron per day using existing raw materials and up to 12,500 tons using sinter and pellets. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plans to produce pellets after the construction of a modern pelletizing plant. The declared capacity of the new
