Ukraine - Moldova: together in the EU

Ukraine and Moldova will strive to implement association agreements with the EU and to full membership in the European Union. Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Maia Sandu announced this following the meeting.

The leaders also discussed issues of bilateral partnership. In particular, they agreed to create a presidential council of Ukraine and Moldova.

The trip to Kiev was the first foreign visit of Maya Sandu, who took office as president at the end of December. Even before her inauguration, she announced that she wanted to "fix" relations between the two countries.

"Glory to Ukraine," Sandu said, examining the military formation in Kiev, and during the signing of bilateral documents she said in Ukrainian that she was pleased to be in Kiev on her first official visit.

Zelensky, in turn, noted that it is important for Ukraine, Moldova and other states of the Eastern Partnership to receive a vaccine against coronavirus.

"I believe that the Eastern Partnership countries should be given special attention by the European Union in matters of joint procurement procedures and accelerated delivery of vaccines. "

During the pandemic, more than 1,160,000 residents of Ukraine have become infected with the coronavirus, and almost 21,000 cases have died. Now the country has a strict quarantine, which will last at least until January 24. Bars, restaurants, markets, fitness centers, entertainment venues are closed. The Minister of Health insists on extending the lockdown due to the January holidays, after which the number of people infected may sharply increase.
