UN experts praised MMK's efforts to reduce and prevent technogenic impact on the environment. Last year alone, the company successfully implemented 69 environmental measures, and work continues on 15 measures. The total amount of financing for the environmental program of PJSC MMK in 2018 amounted to 6.464 billion rubles. All in all, in 2000–2018, Magnitka allocated over 58 billion rubles for environmental activities. The result of this work was a decrease in the gross emissions into the atmosphere by 1.6 times (specific emissions by 2.1 times), and the gross discharges of pollutants into water bodies by 2.4 times. Today, 100% of industrial wastewater is used in recycling water supply.
UNIDO was also highly praised for MMK's energy management system. Certified in 2016 for compliance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 50001, it allows the company to save a significant amount of energy resources annually, as well as effectively reduce air emissions. In 2017, the total economic effect from the implementation of projects to improve the energy efficiency of production processes at MMK amounted to about 1 billion rubles.
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works carries out production activities with an understanding of responsibility for environmental impact. The company's environmental policy provides for a radical reduction in emissions, which will allow achieving a low level of atmospheric pollution in Magnitogorsk by 2025. In total, the company's investments in environmental projects in 2018–2025 will exceed 38 billion rubles.
