MMK has entered the top 10 rankings of environmental responsibility WWF

Annual rankings of WWF-Russia published with 2017, their goal is to reduce pressures on the environment and run socially responsible business in Russia. The rating is based on assessing three areas: environmental management, environmental impact and transparency of the company in environmental issues. In 2019, the rating includes 41 company mining and metallurgical sectors. br>

MMK pays great attention to improving the environmental sustainability of production. Just last year, the company has successfully implemented 69 environmental events and 15 events, the work continues. During the period 2000-2018 yy the company spent on environmental activities of more than 58 billion rubles. The result of this work was the reduction for the period of total emissions in the atmosphere is 1.6 times (specific – 2.1 times), gross discharge of pollutants into water bodies – in 2.4 times. Today, 100% of industrial wastewater is used CMI in the circulating water.


For the period 2018-2025. the company's spending on environmental projects will total over 38 billion rubles. Some of these projects have already proved their efficiency. So, by using the latest environmental technologies at the sinter plant No. 5, launched in July 2019, and decommissioning of outdated sinter plant No. 4, the dust emissions into the atmosphere decreased in two times, sulfur dioxide – four times, benzpyrene – in 16 times. In 2019 the Ministry of environment officially expelled Magnitogorsk from the list of cities with the most polluted air.


Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC "MMK" Victor Rashnikov stressed that "the company is on track to achieve its strategic goal: by 2025 could reduce the rate of KEYES in Magnitogorsk up to 5 units that meet the definition of "Clean city".


the company also noted that in 2019 Magnitogorsk iron and steel works was awarded a diploma of the United Nations industrial development organization (UNIDO) contribution to sustainable development and environmental initiatives in the Chelyabinsk region, as well as for the successful implementation of the program "Energy management of industrial enterprises".
