Severstal announced the winners of the travel grant competition for the Museums of the Russian North program

The Expert Council of the Museums of the Russian North charitable program summed up and announced the winners of the travel grants competition.

More than 120 applications were received from the republics of Karelia and Komi, Perm Territory for participation in professional museum events in September-December 2019 , Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kirov, Kostroma, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod and Pskov regions.

The winners are 25 representatives of 22 museums, who will receive travel grants to participate in a number of specialized events, including the 5th Festival of Children's Museum Programs "Onfim Gathers Friends" in Veliky Novgorod, the Fourth School of Museum Development "Beyond the Borders of Capitals" in Totma, the conference "Actual directions of museums' activities" in Moscow, the 8th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum conference "Colloquium of young restorers ResCo-2019" in Kazan, etc., including professional internships and refresher courses.

“In recent years, the role of museums as has changed radically. Along with the traditional functions of preserving and presenting heritage, museums are actively involved in economic relations, form brands of territories, and become centers of social innovation. Our competition is designed for museum specialists - those who create a new museum in modern times and whose professionalism is the key to the successful development and functioning of the museum industry as a whole. Obviousness of the participants of the competition to self-development and improvement of professional skills, exchange of experience and face-to-face acquaintance with the "novelties" of the museum business. This year, the number of applications for training in continuing education programs in the largest museums of the country has noticeably increased, a number of applications have been submitted for individual internships related to the project and scientific activities of museums, the topic of reports for speaking at scientific conferences is also impressive. It remains to wish the winners of the competition successful trips and further professional achievements ", - noted Natalya Poppel, Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Brand Department of Severstal.

The winners receive funds to participate in Russian conferences, round tables, seminars, forums and other events related to both professional museum activities and general cultural topics. Throughout the existence of the travel grant competition, starting in 2015, Severstal has financed about 300 specialized trips of museum specialists.

The Museum of the Russian North program will be continued by the project laboratory Made in the Museum. From October 1 to October 3, in Kostroma, employees of regional museums will take part in a training session on finalizing their project ideas for subsequent submission of an application for the second final stage of the project competition. The X grant competition for museum projects is intended to identify and support the best initiatives that contribute to the development of socio-cultural and tourist attractiveness of the northern regions. Summing up the results of the competition in December will be the final event of the Museums of the Russian North -2019.
