Mechel Supports Eco-Action to Apply Graffiti to Trees

Press Releases
The Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK PJSC, part of the Mechel Group), together with environmentalists, is conducting an action to improve and decorate trees in city squares and on the streets.

In different parts of the city, Mechel employees and volunteers of the environmental organization Zeleny city "choose trees with damaged bark. The affected areas are treated so that excess moisture does not penetrate through the cracks-frost holes that arise naturally due to temperature changes, fungal spores, parasites and the tree do not rot and collapse. The cracks are sanitized and primed, then volunteer artists decorate the healed tree wounds with paintings on a variety of themes. Mini-paintings are made based on children's fairy tales and fantasy. Artists paint with acrylic paints. They are safe and do not penetrate into the structure of the tree, but create an additional protective layer for it. Graffiti on trees will appear in 20 places in Chelyabinsk on busy city paths. “Such graffiti perform two tasks at once: ecological and aesthetic. First of all, they protect tree trunks with damaged bark and prolong their life. In addition, such a natural open-air gallery pleases the townspeople, "explained Denis Sazontov, Director of Human Resources and Social Policy of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant. You can find images on social networks using the hashtag #Mechelgorod.
