To ensure uninterrupted operation of MMSK in winter, the construction of a garage for defrosting frozen cargo ("greenhouse"), supplied by rail, has started. This will allow unloading copper concentrate and clinker from UMMC enterprises delivered by railway transport to the plant in winter. While raw materials are transported by train only in summer, in winter they use road transport, which is much more expensive.
- The cost of road transportation of copper concentrate from Gaysky GOK in winter is much higher compared to railway transportation. The implementation of the project will make it possible not only to abandon the services of a road carrier in favor of rail transport, but also to involve in the production of additional types of purchased raw materials supplied through the Russian Railways networks, - said Andrey Ibragimov, General Director of MMSK.
Unload bulk cargo, such as copper concentrate, by rail in cold weather without a garage for "defrosting" is difficult. On the way, they freeze up, which creates great difficulties in unloading wagons. Heated garages help to warm the raw materials.
The length of the new garage complex on the MMSK will reach 117 meters. Inside, two independent sections with a capacity of 8 cars each are equipped. Air heated in gas heat generators will be used to defrost raw materials after transportation in winter time in the garage. The process is automatic, the defrost cycle does not exceed 24 hours. The operating mode of the new facility is seasonal, i.e. the complex will operate from November to April (180 days a year). It is planned to commission the garage for "defrosting" in October 2019.
- Currently, the railroad shop is working on the construction of a rail and sleep grid inside the building of the garage complex, as well as access roads to the building. To date, 360 meters of railway tracks have been laid, one turnout has been equipped, - said the head of the railway transport section Yevgeny Savenkov.
Capital costs for the construction of a garage for defrosting frozen cargo on the MMSK will amount to about 148 million rubles. while the payback period is 1.8 years.
