At the production of copper wire rod (PMK) JSC Uralelectromed (an enterprise of the UMMC metallurgical complex) proposed to increase the service life of the shaft furnace lining from 3 to 5 years.
In 2017, PMK specialists, together with Sait-Gobai, began a project to use the most modern lining on the Asarco shaft furnace in order to increase its service life. After two years of operation, the lining was analyzed for wear resistance and was recommended for further operation without repair in the 3rd year.
- The project has successfully passed the test of time and after three years found its further continuation - to replace the refractories of the burner zone and to increase the kiln campaign from 3 to 5 years, - says the head of the PMK Maxim Prosvetov.
The shaft furnace has two zones - the burner (lower part) and the shaft (cylindrical - two-thirds of the total area of the furnace). When melting cathode copper, the main heat load goes to the burner zone, where the fire-resistant silicon carbide brick wears out faster at a temperature of 1300 ° C than in a mine. During the overhaul, PMK specialists suggested not to completely change the entire furnace lining, but to replace only its silicon carbide part in the burner zone.
The proposal was formulated into an initiative with an economic justification. If earlier it took 24 million rubles for the current repair of the entire inner lining of the furnace, then for the replacement of the burner zone - 8 million.
- A partial repair of the burner zone of the furnace is scheduled for January 2022. The replacement of the entire lining is planned to be carried out in 2024, - emphasized Maxim Prosvetov.
Now PMK specialists are preparing a work organization plan, a schedule for partial repair of the lining, make tooling and select contractors to implement the initiative.
