Metalloinvest has confirmed compliance with the international standard ISO 14064-1: 2018 data on the volumes of greenhouse gas emissions at all four production sites - Lebedinsky GOK, Mikhailovsky GOK im. A.V. Varichev, OEMK them. A.A. Ugarov and Ural Steel. The Company's 2019 and 2020 greenhouse gas emissions report has been verified by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

At the 18th Metallurgical Summit “Russian Steel: Growth Strategy”, BSI Key Account Director Alexei Pikulin handed a conclusion on successful verification to Yuri Gavrilov, Director of Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions of Metalloinvest ...

“Metalloinvest considers the climate agenda as one of its priorities,” stressed Yuri Gavrilov. “Based on the obtained quantitative assessment of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from our production sites, we formulated long-term goals and an action plan to achieve them, which formed the basis of our Climate Strategy.”

“Congratulations to Metalloinvest on reaching an important milestone in the continuous development of your company. I am sure that the verification report, which I present to you today, will open new doors for Metalloinvest, in a new capacity, ”said Alexey Pikulin.

In 2020, a complete inventory of greenhouse gases was made, including direct emissions from the Company's sources (Scope 1), indirect emissions from the production of energy purchased from third-party organizations (Scope 2), indirect non-energy emissions from the purchase of raw materials and materials, and product sales, (Scope 3), as well as the carbon footprint of products.

For the first time, the verified indicators of the Company on greenhouse gas emissions were published in the Unified Report for 2020. The reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 compared to 2019 was 2.5 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent.

According to the adopted Climate Strategy, Metalloinvest is striving to achieve carbon neutrality in itself and to maximize the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from its consumers by 2050.

One of the 14000 series of environmental management systems standards, ISO 14064-1 offers businesses a unified approach to quantifying, monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions.

Starting in 2020, BSI is accredited by UKAS, the UK's national accreditation body, to provide verification services for greenhouse gas emissions reporting. The certification is voluntary.
