Ural Steel (part of Metalloinvest) and the Government of the Orenburg Region signed an environmental agreement aimed at improving the quality of atmospheric air in Novotroitsk. The document was signed by the managing director of the plant Ildar Iskakov and the governor of the Orenburg region Denis Pasler.
The agreement provides for the parties' intention to carry out consolidated calculations to determine the contribution of all natural resource users and sectors of the economy to air pollution in Novotroitsk. This work will be organized by the Government of the Orenburg region together with the territorial federal authorities, the city administration and enterprises, including Ural Steel.
Ural Steel intends to implement a set of investment measures by 2026 in order to reduce industrial emissions into the atmosphere by 4%. During this period, the plant has invested over 10 billion rubles in the modernization of gas cleaning equipment and aspiration systems for the electric arc furnace shop, reconstruction of the foundry yards of blast furnaces, modernization of sinter gas purification systems, creation of an automatic control system for pollutant emissions and other projects.
“Reducing the negative impact on the atmosphere is our common task with the business, which requires serious investments and high labor costs from enterprises. Metalloinvest is an example for other companies in this area. The agreement signed today is a serious and balanced step, and a very serious investment in caring for the residents of Novotroitsk. I am grateful to Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov, who is attentive to the development of the company, and to the current head of Ural Steel, who quickly joined the environmental agenda of the region. We systematically carry out such work with companies throughout the region - and this is not the last such agreement, ”Denis Pasler emphasized.
“Reducing the impact on the environment is a key priority for our company,” said Ildar Iskakov, Managing Director of Ural Steel. - As a result of the modernization of production and the transition to environmentally friendly technologies, the plant's emissions over the past decade have decreased by a third. In 2016, a new landfill was launched, which ensured the safe storage and processing of industrial waste. A closed water supply system excludes the discharge of pollutants into water bodies. This year the aspiration system of the bunker rooms of blast furnaces No. 3 and No. 4 was reconstructed. "
