Airlines suspend flights over Iranian and Iraqi airspace

Air France is one of the latest to suspend flights over Iranian and Iraqi airspace. Other airlines have taken similar steps in the morning.

Wednesday, Air France announced it had suspended all flights over the airspace of the two middle Eastern countries until further notice. The airline said that the decision is a precautionary measure and that it is constantly monitoring the situation to "ensure the highest level of safety".

German Lufthansa said it cancelled flights to Tehran and Erbil because of the "current incidents in Iraq."

Other major airlines had taken similar steps earlier. Airline Singapore airlines said in its statement Wednesday that its flights were redirected from Iranian airspace, adding that it was "closely monitoring the situation and, if necessary, make appropriate adjustments to the routes."

Airline EVA Air Taiwan said that the European flights of the carrier began to avoid flying over Iran early Wednesday morning, according to Taiwan time for security.

Malaysia Airlines said Wednesday that because of recent events it intends "to avoid incidents in the air space of Iran."

In the United States Federal aviation administration issued a notice prohibiting non-military U.S. aircraft "to operate in the airspace over Iraq, Iran, Arabian and Oman gulfs".

the Federal Agency of air transport of Russia has advised all Russian airlines to avoid the airspace of Iran and Iraq.

Wednesday, 8 January, at approximately 6:00 Tehran time (about 4:30 Kyiv time) after takeoff from the Tehran airport. Imam Khomeini crashed the plane Boeing-737 of the Ukrainian airline "Ukraine International airlines", which was to perform flight PS752 on the route Tehran-Kiev. According to the NSDC of Ukraine, on Board the aircraft was 177: 168 passengers and 9 crew members. Among them, 11 Ukrainian - two passengers and nine crew members. All died.
