Special substances that add flavor and change the structure of familiar foods are called additives. A special tc regulation 029 2012 standardizes them so that manufacturers are guaranteed to use only permitted and safe components. Unable to harm finished products and cause an allergic reaction in the consumer.
What are the goals of the regulations
The main goal is to prevent food manufacturers from using harmful and untested food additives. Protecting the life and health of all food consumers without exception. In addition, there are other reasons why food additives were strictly regulated at the legislative level:
- Neutral impact on the environment.
- Limit the amount of preservatives in long-lasting foods.
- Don't mislead consumers.
- Indicate the exact composition on the product label.
- During disposal, additives must not turn into poison.
Important: all components included in the regulation that are added to the recipe of certain food products are allowed for use. But, the law regulates, among other things, the amount of substances per kilogram of initial raw materials. In order not to exceed the recommended and safe standards during the production process.
What is regulated
Substances that can be added in the process of manufacturing food products can be produced both on the territory of the state and imported from abroad. In any case, this regulation strictly applies to all additional components. The list of the following manufactured ingredients falls under it:
- food flavorings;
- classic flavors;
- processing aids;
- conservatives to help preserve finished goods;
- biologically active substances.
All norms apply exclusively to industrial production for the purpose of selling in markets, shops and other retail outlets. For home production for personal use, the regulation cannot restrict the consumer from using any additional additives. Revealing the use of unauthorized components or exceeding the permitted norms may serve as a suspension of production and withdrawal of finished products from sale.
