Elon Musk Suggests Sending Internet Terminals Starlink to Tonga

Elon Musk Offers Satellite Internet to Tonga Tsunami Victims

Space Exploration Technologies CEO Elon Musk proposes sending Starlink Internet terminals to Tonga after an underwater volcanic eruption and subsequent tsunami disrupted communications.

Musk tweeted after a New Zealand MP asked for help due to the natural disaster in Tonga.

Musk responded on Twitter to a message that full network services would not be restored in Tonga for at least a month after the submarine cable was disconnected as a result of two natural disasters.

SpaceX's CEO said he's looking for "clear confirmation" from Tonga if he needs the terminals because sending them would be "challenging" now as there are not enough laser-linked satellites. He also added that there are already satellites serving the region.

Musk responded to a Twitter user who posted a letter from New Zealand MP Shane Rethy asking for a Starlink connection for Tonga.
