This is a full-scale replica of the $ 600,000 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, powered by a 2003 LS1 Corvette engine and a Porsche 911 transmission.

Physicist Sterling Backus wanted to work on the car with his child, but this project is a little more unique than the old Moskvich in the garage.

For the past 18 months, Backus and his 11-year-old son have been building a full-scale Lamborghini Aventador SVJ using 3D printing. Backus says he just wanted to show the kids that science, technology and engineering are cool.

Costs are roughly $ 20,000 today, but that's still a lot cheaper than the official $ 639,670 base price tag.

The frame, suspension and drivetrain are all made of steel (my father wants it to be safe), but other than that, the body panels, taillights and other components were 3D printed in plastic and some are wrapped in carbon fiber ...

According to a recent interview, my father found a 1/10 Lamborghini online and "grown" it to full size using the wheel width as a guide.

Sterling believes he and his son have made enough design changes to avoid any legal problems. For example, they made the car 4 inches wider to make it wider. Sterling has also uploaded 3D printer work files to GrabCAD.com so everyone can build their own Lamborghinis.

The car is not yet on the move, but it is planned that it will be ready by October, and by the spring it will take his son Backus to school.

The vehicle is powered by a 2003 LS1 Corvette engine and a Porsche 911 transmission.
