The DPRK has successfully conducted a test launch of a hypersonic missile. This was announced on Thursday by the official Korea Central Telegraph Agency (CTAC).
The missile, launched by the Academy of Defense Sciences on Wednesday, reportedly flew 120 km laterally and then accurately hit a target 700 km away, proving the reliability of the new fuel system.
This is the second test launch of a hypersonic missile confirmed by the DPRK since the launch of Hwaseong-8 in September.
“Consistent success in test launches in the hypersonic missile sector is of strategic importance, as it accelerates the task of modernizing the strategic armed forces of the state,” said the CTAC, adding that the tests verified the reliability of the fuel system in winter conditions. p>
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that Pyongyang's missile launch violated a number of UN Security Council resolutions. Japan also protested the DPRK over the test of a hypersonic missile.
