Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has released smart stainless steel trash cans. These smart bins will be able to send a signal to the garbage collection machine when they are full, helping better cleaning and less human intervention.
Eco-friendly waste bins will be made of SAIL SALEM stainless steel. They will be installed in underground reinforced concrete pits (RCC) at Smart Garbage Station. This will help prevent the spread of stench and disease.
“Smart waste stations will be equipped with recesses in which stainless steel containers will be placed. There will be separate containers for recyclable and non-recyclable waste. The pits in which the boxes will be placed will be covered with a lid made of non-slip stainless steel sheets. The matching holes in the pit lid will allow the sanitary crew to dump the collected debris into the stainless steel trash bins located underground, ”SAIL said in a statement.
“It is planned to install Gazelle sensors with IOT (Internet of Things) support on the pit cover, which will transmit signals to the information collection vehicle. The compactor will lift the stainless steel containers from the underground quarries and unload the debris into the vehicle, ”the steel company said in a statement.
SAIL encourages other municipalities to take this initiative further. According to the statement, depending on the response, SAIL may begin industrial-scale production of stainless steel waste bins in the future.
