Officials in Beijing suspect that some of the metallurgical enterprises that have been liquidated continue to manufacture products and pollute the air in China.

China to check closed steel mills

China's central authorities will review the implementation of orders to eliminate overcapacity in the steel and coal sectors in the third quarter, Meng Wei, spokeswoman for the National Development and Reform Commission, warned at a press conference on Tuesday July 16.

The check is aimed at preventing the revival of already closed and obsolete facilities.

Electricity producers were asked to limit the use of coal as much as possible and to actively develop energy generation systems based on the market principle, taking into account wind and solar energy, as well as hydrogen energy.

Earlier it was reported that despite all the orders of the authorities and reports on the successful reduction of capacities, the environmental situation in the central province of China Hebei remains at the level of an environmental disaster.

Last week, Beijing announced its intention to tighten controls on industrial emissions. The Ministry of the Environment will engage industry associations to assess plant emissions to avoid fraudulent emissions increases.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the People's Republic of China, the average daily steel output in June was a record 2.92 million tons, up from 2.87 million tons in May.
