In the steel wire shop No. 2 of the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant, a line for the production of a new type of wire was put into operation. The technology was tested from March to May 2022, the first pilot batch has already been successfully tested.
“Thinner than a human hair and yet easily cuts crystals. This unique type of product is used in the industry for cutting silicon wafers, one of the main components for the production of solar cells, silicon substrates for LED microchips, integrated circuits. The topic is especially relevant against the backdrop of the global semiconductor crisis and a severe shortage in the Chinese microchip market.
Crystal cutting wire is a unique product from BMZ. It is not produced by other enterprises either in Belarus or in the post-Soviet space. This product contains no imported components, all raw materials are either from Belarus or Russia. Previously, companies purchased this product in Europe. There is also production in China, but supplies from there are fraught with difficulties in logistics and delivery.
BMZ is currently considering options for the supply of these products to countries not limited by sanctions. A project is being worked out to expand production capacity. Potential equipment suppliers have been found, negotiations are underway on the technical part," the company's materials say.
