The August market for new cars in the EU showed a positive trend

In August, the European new car market finally returned to growth (+4.4%), putting an end to thirteen consecutive months of decline.

However, the result of 650,305 registered cars remains well below pre-pandemic levels, according to ACEA.

All key EU markets contributed positively to overall growth, with strong gains in Italy (+9.9%), Spain (+9.1%), France (+3.8%) and Germany (+3 .0%).

At the same time, despite the improvement in August, previous drops have a negative impact on aggregate indicators. In the eight months of 2022, total volumes fell by 12% to almost six million new passenger cars sold.

Thus, all four key markets suffered losses this year: Italy (-18.4%), France (-13.8%), Germany (-9.8%) and Spain (-9.4%) ).

Leadership in the European market is occupied by VW Group, which sold 1778549 cars from January to August, while the fall was -15.6% compared to last year. In second place is STELLANTIS with 1,517,706 cars sold, which is 18.6% less than last year. Also in the top three Renault Group - 672,226 registrations (-7%).
