January 26, Panaji. The five-kilometer bridge over the Mandovi River is slated to open for public use on Sunday. The ceremony will be held with the participation of the Federal Minister of Transport Nitin Gadkari.
Siddhart Kunkolinkar, deputy chairman of the Goa Development and Infrastructure Corporation, said that up to sixty-six thousand cars a day would be able to move across the four-lane bridge. Describing it as an aesthetically pleasing landmark for the coastal state, Kunkolinkar said the bridge is made of thirteen tons of corrosion-resistant steel, thirty-two thousand meters of construction steel plates and two thousand kilometers of high-strength tensile cable.
- His services will be able to monitor the technical condition of the bridge in real time, - summed up the Deputy Chairman.
The bridge is one of the largest public-private projects.
