Voestalpine wins 10-year contract with engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce

Specialty steel mill Voestalpine announced on Wednesday a 10-year agreement to supply Rolls-Royce with materials for use in engine discs, making it the largest contract in the engine segment.

Voestalpine materials and special forgings are already used in chassis, wing and engine parts in Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier models. An industry source said the contract was worth at least € 100 million.

According to Voestalpine, the materials it will deliver to the rotating engine discs, which are an essential part of the engine, must absorb enormous pressure and will therefore operate at up to 16,500 rpm and temperatures in excess of 2000 ° C.

The Linz-based company generates around 400 million euros ($ 448 million) in aerospace market revenue and expects this to rise to 500 million euros in the medium term.
