British Airways will cut approximately 10,000 short-haul flights to and from Heathrow between late October and March.
According to the airline, this step is aimed at minimizing operational disruptions during the winter period.
Heathrow, which is a major hub for British Airways, has limited the number of passengers departing from the airport due to a lack of staff.
Airports and airlines that have been cutting jobs in the midst of coronavirus lockdowns have struggled to recruit enough new staff.
British Airways said it expects to operate an average of 290 flights per day from London Heathrow Airport during the winter. Its total output will be reduced by 8% during the winter schedule.
British Airways is Heathrow Airport's largest operator and earlier this month suspended sales of short-haul flights from the airport for two weeks.
This restriction was supposed to end on September 11, but was recently extended to October 29.
