German long products manufacturer Saarstahl AG has announced that its subsidiary DWK Drahtwerk Köln GmbH (DWK) has extended a long-term cooperation agreement with energy equipment manufacturer Max Bögl Wind AG, expanding the partnership that has been in effect since 2015.
The updated agreement increases the volume of supplies and purchases, while deepening strategic cooperation between the companies, as demand for wind energy infrastructure continues to grow throughout Europe.
The prestressing of steel is crucial for hybrid wind turbine towers
Under the agreement, Max Bögl will continue to provide long-term supplies of steel prestressing wire used in hybrid wind turbine towers. These high-strength wires are attached to the concrete structures of the towers to create tensile stress, increase structural stability, durability, and resistance to operational stresses such as wind pressure and turbine rotation forces.
High-performance rolled products are an important component of large-scale installations using renewable energy sources, especially in connection with the transition to the design of larger wind turbines and increasing design requirements.
