Crude steel production in Italy increased by 2.6% in February%

According to data released by the Italian Federation of Steel Producers (Federacciai), the country's crude steel production increased by 2.6% year-on-year in February, reaching 1.9 million tons. After an increase of 1.6% recorded in January, the recovery in production was thought to be gaining momentum.

If we summarize the results for the first two months of this year, the total steel production in Italy increased to 3.6 million tons, which is 2.1% more than in the same period last year. This confirmed that the recovery trend seen in the Italian steel sector in 2025 has continued into 2026.

In the group of hot-rolled products, the difference between long-range and flat-rolled products has remained. The production of rolled products for the construction sector increased by 5.0% year-on-year in February to 1.1 million tons, while in the first two months of this year it increased by 8.6% year-on-year to 2.1 million tons. On the contrary, the production of flat rolled products in the automotive, mechanical engineering and household appliances sectors decreased by 7.4% in February compared to the same period last year, remaining at the level of 737,000 tons. In the first two months, the production of flat rolled products decreased by 4.4% compared to the same period last year to 1.5 million tons.
