Tata Steel Nederland has started trial operation at its sheet metal production plant (DSP) in Eimeiden after the plant exceeded chromium 6 emission standards.
The DSP was shut down on April 3 after measurements showed that emissions were significantly above the legal limit.
In recent weeks, Tata has been investigating the cause of the overflow and reports that it has been discovered and the necessary adjustments are currently being made, according to Kallanish from the regional Environmental Protection Service in the Northern Sea Canal Area (ODNZKG).
The steel mill started heating up the installation on April 21, and since April 22, test launches have been conducted solely for the purpose of measurements.
After the trial run, the DSP will be stopped again and will remain in this state until ODNZKG determines whether the installation can be started again.
At the DSP plant in Ijmuiden, liquid steel is transformed into hot-rolled steel during a continuous process. The resulting product is used in electrical components such as trims for electric motors and transformer parts, as well as in car seats, furniture, and facade panels. The plant's capacity is 1.4 million tons per year.
