Thyssenkrupp Steel has announced the resumption of trial production at its hot rolling plant No. 4 in Duisburg, Germany.
On the evening of October 24, 2025, an explosion occurred in the furnace area of the enterprise, followed by a fire, as a result of which the furnaces and parts of the roof structure were damaged. In the months following the incident, the company carried out extensive repairs in the affected areas of the plant. In addition to the repair work, a number of technical improvements and modernization measures aimed at improving production efficiency were also carried out. The continuous casting plant, which is part of the company, has already resumed its work in mid-December. Marco Richrat, Production Director at thyssenkrupp Steel, said that the restart of the No. 4 hot rolling mill represents an important step in strengthening the stability, flexibility and reliability of the company's production network. He noted that, together with the upgraded continuous casting shop and the digital slab logistics system, one of the most advanced production networks in Europe is back online. The company stated that Hot rolling mill 4 is at the center of its broader modernization strategy and is designed to produce hot-rolled flat products of a wide range of grades. The product range includes standard steels, as well as high-strength and thinner premium grade steels used in the automotive, mechanical engineering, construction, and energy industries. Richrath emphasized that the plant has been put back into operation with increased precision, surface quality and production flexibility to meet the growing demands of customers.Author: Editorial staff of SteelRadar
