new car Sales in Britain fell in April by 97% year on year to 321 units of 4, reaching the lowest level since 1946, showed the industry data published on Tuesday by the Community of manufacturers and sellers of automobiles (SMMT).
"the Drop was the coolest in our time and follows a similar drop in Europe: France fell by 88.8 percent and the Italian market fell by 97.5 percent in April," the message reads SMMT.
the SMMT added that car dealerships were closed because of lock in Britain, which was entered into force on 23 March all over the country, but some shipments had taken place for key employees, as well as public services and companies operating at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.
the SMMT predicts that in 2020 was about 1.68 million new cars, which is 27 percent less than last year.
"Safe restart this most important sector will be the key to unlocking the production and acceleration of economic recovery in the UK", said the SMMT.
