The World Stainless Steel Association released data for the first half of 2023 showing that stainless steel production fell 1.7% year-over-year to 28.4 million metric tons.
The share of Chinese metallurgists in this volume accounted for 17.587 million tons - an 8.2% increase year-on-year.
Asian countries excluding China and South Korea produced 3.318 million tons of stainless steel in January-June, a year-on-year decrease of 14.6%.
Europe smelted 3.136 million tons of stainless steel, down 13.4% year on year.
In the US, volumes amounted to 0.942 million tons - 13.5% less than the first half of 2022.
Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and South Korea (listed as “other” countries) produced 3.462 million tons of stainless steel in the first 6 months. On an annual basis, the indicators worsened by 15.2%.
