ArcelorMittal Poland has officially commissioned hydrogen furnaces in the cold rolling annealing workshop at its Krakow facility. The event was attended by representatives of local and regional authorities, in particular, the vice-president of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship and the vice-president of the city, the company said in a press release.
The 52 million zloty investment was part of a large-scale 100 million zloty modernization package, which also provides for the introduction of a new galvanizing method, which will reduce zinc consumption and increase the corrosion resistance of products.
The launch of hydrogen furnaces is not the last step of the company in this direction. Construction of a hydrogen production plant has already begun in Krakow, which is being implemented in cooperation with Linde Gaz Polska. In 2025, this hydrogen will be used as fuel for two hot-dip galvanizing lines. The cost of the project is another 100 million zlotys.
Since 2004, ArcelorMittal has invested more than 2.7 billion zlotys in the Krakow plant, creating one of the most modern metallurgical complexes in Europe.
