Private Joint Stock Company "Sukha Balka" is one of the largest Ukrainian enterprises in the mining industry, specializing in the extraction of iron ore by the underground method. As a result of his inspection, ecologists have revealed that effective technologies for handling mine water have not been introduced. This was announced by the Head of the State Environmental Inspection Andrei Malevany.
“During an unscheduled inspection of PJSC“ Sukha Balka ”, which was carried out on behalf of Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, it was found that the enterprise is pumping mine water to prevent flooding of mines and transfers it to Svistunov's gully without proper cleaning. Such effluents contain chlorides, ammonium nitrogen, suspended solids, iron, oil products, nitrates, nitrites, sulfates, phenols, phosphates, BSK5. Pollutants have a negative impact on the general condition of the Ingulets River, which remains an important source of drinking and household water supply in the Kryvyi Rih region, ”said Andriy Malevanny.
He added that the SE "Kryvbassshakhtozakrytie", which has a storage pond of the Svistunov beam, does not have a permit for special water use. Therefore, the reception of mine water is carried out in violation.
“Currently, the State Environmental Inspectorate is preparing an order to the enterprise to eliminate violations. PrJSC Sukha Balka will be obliged to introduce effective technologies to reduce the level of their mineralization before being discharged into water bodies, "added Andrey Malevanny.
