The State Ecological Service of Ukraine has calculated the amount caused by the country's largest metallurgical enterprise to the ecology of Krivoy Rog. According to the head of the State Environmental Inspection Andriy Malyovanyi, the activities of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih caused the environment more than UAH 450 million in losses.
“We are talking about the illegal placement of sludge from sintering shops on one of the land plots, it is not intended to remove such waste ... In addition, during an unscheduled inspection of the enterprise, the State Environmental Inspection established that the design and technical documentation for the installation of a place for drying sludge and deduction from the assessment there are no environmental impacts. Also, the enterprise does not have a passport of the place of waste disposal. This contradicts the requirements of environmental legislation, and the placement of sludge is equated with contamination of the territory. For this violation, the State Environmental Inspection calculated the damage in the amount of 456.7 million hryvnia, "Malyovany said.
According to him, a claim for voluntary compensation for environmental damage has already been sent to the company. In case of refusal to pay this amount, the State Environmental Inspection will collect funds in court.
"The State Environmental Inspectorate will continue to conduct unscheduled inspections of PJSC" ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih ", calculate new losses and issue fines until the company provides a comprehensive modernization of facilities and brings its industrial processes in accordance with environmental legislation," the official promised.
