Republicans in the US House of Representatives plan to impose additional sanctions against Turkey in response to Ankara's invasion of Syria, party spokeswoman Liz Cheney told reporters on Wednesday.
Despite the fact that the Republicans do not control the House, this measure has a good chance of being passed, as members of both sides condemn Turkey's attack in Syria.
On Wednesday, Republican-led Supreme Democrat Chuck Schumer called on the House to pass an immediate resolution.
Republican President Donald Trump announced sanctions against Turkey, raised tariffs on steel imports into the country to 50% and suspended a major trade deal, but many lawmakers say the US response must go even further as previous measures were ignored by Ankara.
