The technology is designed to partially replace conventional fuels in the production of ferroalloys, additives that improve metal properties.

The project will save about 2 thousand tons of fuel per year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 thousand tons per year, which is equivalent to the exhaust volume of 1,500 passenger cars per year.

The raw materials for processing are about 8 thousand tons of wood, which remains after repairs and equipment supplies. These are old wooden structures, pallets, packaging and other materials.

The project is part of NLMK's large–scale program to involve recycled materials in its own technological processes. It will reduce waste generation and increase the share of domestic recycling. NLMK strives to develop a closed-loop economy, and currently processes up to 99% of secondary raw materials, returning them to production.
