The cost of parts has been reduced at the KAMAZ foundry

The KAMAZ foundry has changed its production technology, which has increased productivity and reduced the cost of each casting. This was announced by the company's press service.

The engineers applied the vertical arrangement of the castings in the casting mold. Thanks to this, it was possible to increase the nesting capacity — the number of parts produced in one cycle. The project started a year ago. With the help of 3D modeling, the specialists virtually worked out the casting and crystallization, which made it possible to avoid mistakes at the early stages of design.

Using a 3D printer also saved months of work. Rods are printed on it, which are then assembled into a bag and installed in a mold. Rafil Nurullin, head of the technological department of steel casting production, explained that 3D printing allows parts to be produced in small batches - this is necessary for testing the technology. In addition, the method is suitable for the manufacture of particularly complex and high-precision mass-produced products.

Currently, the plant has more than 30 positions that can be transferred to the new technology. The expected annual savings will amount to about 150 million rubles.
