The industrial production index in St. Petersburg reached 103.6% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The city surpassed the average Russian level by 3.3 percentage points, where the figure was 100.3%, Smolny reported.
In the manufacturing sector, the IPI increased to 104.7%, while the national average was at 99.3%. The total volume of shipped industrial products in St. Petersburg exceeded 900 billion rubles. Governor Alexander Beglov noted that the results of the first quarter show the confident adaptation of the St. Petersburg industry to changing conditions, opportunities for the development of new industries and the production of import-substituting products.
The main contribution to the growth was provided by mechanical engineering. The production of motor vehicles showed an IPI of 117.4%, the production of electrical equipment — 117.1%, machinery and equipment — 106.7%. The pharmaceutical industry showed strong dynamics: the index in the production of medicines and materials reached 118.6%.
Significant growth was also recorded in the production of finished metal products (1.7 times) and paper products (1.6 times). The turnover of enterprises in the manufacturing sector in the first three months of 2026 exceeded 1.3 trillion rubles, which is 14.6% of the total turnover of urban companies.
