In 2021, 19.63 million tons of ferrous metals were exported from Ukraine in the amount of 13.9 billion US dollars. Compared to the previous year, there is an increase in export deliveries in physical terms by 6.1%, in monetary terms - an increase in foreign exchange earnings by 81.4%. At the same time, the export of pig iron amounted to 3236.0 thousand tons (+ 4.2%) and semi-finished products (square billets, slabs, etc.) - 6776.7 thousand tons (-9.5%).
In the commodity structure of Ukrainian exports of ferrous metals in 2021, finished rolled steel prevailed - 42.4%, the share of semi-finished steel products (square billets, slabs) amounted to 34.5%, and the export of metallurgical raw materials (cast iron, ferroalloys and metal) took 23.1% of the total.
Most of the Ukrainian steel in 2021 was bought in the EU countries (35%) and in other European countries (21%). 7.5% of Ukrainian exports of ferrous metals were shipped to the CIS, 6.0% to the Middle East, 8.0% to Africa and about 22.5% to other regions.
Exports of iron ore raw materials from Ukraine in 2021 amounted to 44.4 million tons, which is less than the volume of external shipments in the same period of the previous year by 4.0%, when 46.3 million tons were exported.
Imports of ferrous metals to Ukraine during 2021 decreased by 3.6% (to 1 234.4 thousand tons). At the same time, foreign exchange expenses amounted to about 1.54 billion US dollars (+ 48.8%).
