In the first month of 2022, 1.37 million tons of ferrous metals were exported from Ukraine for a total of 1.02 billion US dollars. Compared to the first month of the previous year, there is a decrease in export deliveries in physical terms by 12.0%, in monetary terms - an increase in foreign exchange earnings by 37.2%.
In January 2021, exports of Ukrainian scrap metal decreased by 69.7% year-on-year and amounted to 5.8 thousand tons, foreign sales of pig iron increased by 1.4% to 191.8 thousand tons, exports of steel semi-finished products (square blanks, slabs, etc.) collapsed by 27.9% and amounted to 486.5 thousand tons.
The commodity structure of Ukrainian exports of ferrous metals in January was represented by 35.4% of semi-finished steel products (square billets, slabs), by 17.5% - by metallurgical raw materials (cast iron, ferroalloys, m /scrap) and by 47.1% - steel finished rolled products.
The geographical structure of Ukrainian exports of ferrous metallurgy products is dominated by the countries of the European Union (35%), other countries of Europe (21%), the CIS (7.5%), the countries of the Middle East (6.0%), Africa (8, 0%) and other regions (22.5%).
Export of iron ore raw materials from Ukraine in January 2022 amounted to 3.68 million tons, which is 4.3% more than the volume of external shipments for the same period of the previous year, when 3.84 million tons were exported.
Imports of ferrous metals to Ukraine during January 2022 increased by 27.6% (up to 77.3 thousand tons). Import of scrap metal amounted to 0.14 thousand tons, which is significantly less than last year.
