During 2021, liquid medical oxygen from Zaporizhstal was received free of charge by more than 30 hospitals in Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kiev, Zhytomyr, Kharkov, Kherson, Donetsk, Lugansk, Nikolaev and Khmelnitsky regions. The peak month of shipment was November, when the volume of oxygen sent to doctors by Zaporizhstal amounted to about 1400 tons.
“Thousands of COVID-19 patients in Ukraine needed oxygen support. Metinvest's Zaporizhstal has made extra efforts to provide them with vital medical supplies. During peak periods, we shipped oxygen 24/7, without the slightest delay - doing everything in our power to overcome the pandemic and save lives. In 2022, we will continue to provide medical institutions with free oxygen produced by Zaporizhstal, - said Alexander Mironenko, General Director of Zaporizhstal Plant of Metinvest Group.
The largest volumes of medical oxygen for the entire period of its shipment by the plant were received by the city hospitals of Zaporozhye and the regional infectious diseases hospital - more than 2500 tons. Recall that the Zaporizhzhya Regional Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital is the main COVID hospital in the region, where Zaporizhstal and Metinvest, with the support of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, financed the construction of a modern oxygen station, and also carried out major overhauls of a department that had previously suffered from a fire.
In addition to Zaporizhstal, three more companies of the Metinvest Group provide oxygen free of charge for the needs of Ukrainian hospitals. Starting in October, when an acute oxygen deficiency arose in Ukraine, Metinvest Group, at the request of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, expanded the geography of oxygen supplies for the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The company's enterprises, in particular Zaporizhstal, shipped oxygen free of charge to 110 hospitals in 17 regions of Ukraine. In October-December 2021, Metinvest enterprises shipped 5529 tons of oxygen to hospitals in the country. Metinvest provides hospitals in the country with every fourth ton of oxygen. One ton of oxygen covers the needs of about a hundred patients.
As a reminder, in April 2021, Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group received a registration certificate from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for the production of liquid oxygen for use as a medical drug. Then the plant began to transfer oxygen to the medical institutions of the Zaporozhye region on a free basis.
