Ukraine will continue its course towards reducing its carbon footprint and introducing the latest technologies in the energy sector, Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko emphasized.
“We worked on this even before the war. We want our energy system to meet the best world standards, including both decarbonization issues and the development of the latest technologies, in particular in the field of renewable energy sources,” he said.
Herman Galushchenko stressed that the Ukrainian energy mix contains 70% of electricity produced without a carbon footprint, and this figure is better than in many European countries.
"Of course, we will develop all this, taking into account the fact that we have not a single exchange with Russia - neither emergency nor technical, - we will not have a single kilowatt," the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine added.
The minister stressed that the country has successfully passed the 2021-2022 heating season, including through nuclear generation.
“This year, nuclear generation produced a record number of kilowatt-hours in the entire history of Ukraine. For a certain period, all 15 blocks worked. For the next heating season, we plan to repeat the records of nuclear generation,” German Galushchenko noted.
During the heating season 2021-2022, the maximum nuclear generation in Ukraine was more than 300 million kWh per day.
