Procurement of scrap metal in Ukraine decreased by half

The supply of scrap metal to metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-April 2022 decreased by 47.1% compared to January-April 2021, to 583.5 thousand tons. The total volume of scrap metal supplies in April amounted to 52.5 thousand tons.

Procurement of scrap metal in Ukraine decreased by half

For the four months of 2022, Ukrainian scrap processing enterprises reduced the purchase of scrap metal by 50.4% compared to the same period in 2021, to 620.1 thousand tons. This was announced on Tuesday by the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet).

The export of Ukrainian scrap metal for the specified period amounted to 7.1 thousand tons, which is 12.3 times less compared to the four months of 2021 (87.0 thousand tons). At the same time, scrap imports amounted to 100 tons, while in January-April 2021 - 7.8 thousand tons.

The supply of scrap metal to metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-April 2022 decreased by 47.1% compared to January-April 2021, to 583.5 thousand tons. The total volume of scrap metal supplies in April amounted to 52.5 thousand tons.

The level of scrap metal stocks at metallurgical enterprises as of May 1, 2022 is estimated at 60 thousand tons.

According to UAVtormet, in April, only one metallurgical plant in Ukraine produced steel. “Insignificant volumes of steel production were shown by individual foundries,” the UAVtormet said in a statement.

The association also reported that the metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-April of this year reduced steel production by 45.9% compared to the same period last year - up to 3.858 million tons.
