Ukrainian scrap collectors have called for the lifting of the ban on scrap exports from Ukraine

Enterprises engaged in operations with scrap of ferrous metals conceded for the lifting of the actual ban on the export of scrap from Ukraine and the introduction of quotas for the supply of this cheese to EU countries in the amount of 200 thousand tons. Tons per hour.

This position was voiced by business representatives at a press conference "Scrap market of Ukraine:between the needs of the economy and regulatory uncertainty" in the agency "Interfax-Ukraine" on Friday.

President of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals ("UAVtormet") Vladimir Bubley noted that steel production in the first 5 months of this year decreased by 6%, scrap consumption – by 7.6%, to 604 thousand tons. Tons. Because of this, the country lost EUR60 million in foreign exchange earnings, and tax revenues to the state budget decreased accordingly.

According to him, due to the ban on scrap exports, scrap prices in the domestic market have fallen. So, Ukrzaliznytsya sold scrap this year at a price of 5.5 thousand. UAH, whereas in 2025 the average price was 8.5 thousand. UAH per ton. When selling 50 thousand. UZ lost 3 thousand UAH per ton of scrap.

"Consumers now sell scrap on the domestic market for $160-165 per ton, while entrepreneurs in the EU pay $360 per ton. Thus, we lose an average of $200," stated Bubley.

He suggested holding a meeting at the state level to sort out the market situation and draw up a balance of scrap consumption. In addition, he considers the plans to increase VAT on scrap operations to be incorrect.

Sergey Vovk, CEO of Ukrmet-Invest LLC, noted that his company had fired 150 employees due to the de facto ban on scrap exports.

"Of the 18 fakes, 6 remain, the rest are up for sale due to the millions of murders. Previously, 5-6 thousand tons were supplied to the market. Tons of scrap, now-2 thousand. Tons. The scrap harvesting industry has reduced budget allocations accordingly. In general, the state has lost more than 500 million UAH received in the budget," said Vovk.

Vladislav Kleschinsky, CEO of the UKRMET Group of Companies, noted that after the actual closure of scrap exports, the industry "broke down."

"We have closed two terminals, a port and 10 sites. But one should not close one's eyes when there is no opportunity to sell products on the domestic market. A compromise solution is to introduce an export quota of up to 200 thousand. Tons for the supply of scrap to the EU," Kleshchinsky said.

Nikolay Klimovich, Director of Development at Mirten LLC, appealed to the government: "We don't need any help
