on the Eve of human rights Day, celebrated 10 December, UN high Commissioner Michelle Bachelet emphasized that the climate crisis today the main threat to humanity, because ultimately undermine the fundamental right of every person – the right to life.

"All human beings are born free and equal in their dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood" - quoted Michelle Bachelet, the first head of the universal Declaration of human rights and added that an emergency climate – perhaps the most serious threat to human rights on a global scale since the Second world war.

As noted by the high Commissioner in a special statement today we feel the consequences of the climate crisis in all spheres: the right to life, health, nutrition, water and housing to the right to freedom from discrimination, to development and self-determination.

Michelle Bachelet stressed that to avoid the consequences of extraordinary climatic situation will not be able to any country. Today as a result of natural disasters, droughts and floods, people losing their homes, sources of livelihood and more people are forced to leave. Inequality is only getting worse. In a statement, the Commissioner States that the border will not stop climate change, and no action, dictated by aggressive nationalism and short-term financial interests, not only will not protect us from its effects, they will only hasten climate catastrophe.

"Fighting for climate justice and human rights is not a political dispute, said Bachelet. - It is not about left and right, we are talking about the choice between good and evil".

It urged world leaders to put aside narrow national and political interests, to openly face the future and take responsibility for the welfare of all the inhabitants of the Earth, including themselves and their own descendants.
