Ukrmetallurgprom invites the government to withdraw a draft resolution to increase fees for vessels passing locks of the Dnieper cascade as threatening the national security of Ukraine.

the Draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On amendments to the fees for passage of ships locks of the Dnieper cascade" in its current form is definitely not going to have the support of representatives of mining and metallurgical complex, as it is completely contrary to the international practices, and has significant negative consequences not only for individual industries, but also for economic and national security of Ukraine in General. This is stated the letter the President AP "Ukrmetallurgprom" Alexander Kalenkova to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Goncharuk and Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Vladislav Crickley.

the Decree creates additional pressure on mining and metallurgical complex (MMC) of Ukraine, the situation in which the already deteriorated significantly due to increased protectionism and competition in the global steel markets and falling global prices and reduced demand for steel products noted in the merger.

Earlier it was reported that after the adoption of the new tariffs, the cost of locking ships on the Dnieper cascade may increase more than doubled. The Ministry of infrastructure claim that the current Board size for the passage of the gateways that was established in 2014 and do not cover the cost of maintaining and repairing the river transport infrastructure.

At the end of navigation-2019 "Zaporizhstal" steel works increased shipping steel river transport by 36% compared to 2018. Last year, the Zaporizhzhia river port plant has shipped to consumers of 905 thousand tons of steel against 674 thousand tons in 2018.

According to the State enterprise of waterways (for the school) "UkrPolBat", the number of vessels that passed the locking on the Dnieper river during the navigation period in 2018, has increased in comparison with indicator of 2017 12.4% — up to 15 075.
