In 2020, Zaporizhstal sent 867 thousand tons of its products through the Zaporozhye river port, another 6.5 thousand tons were shipped through the river terminal by the Zaporozhkoks plant. In total, the cargoes of Metinvest's two Zaporizhzhya enterprises provided 95% of the total volume of cargo handled in the Zaporizhzhya river port.
According to the results of navigation-2020, Zaporizhstal insignificantly reduced the volume of cargo shipment through the Zaporizhzhya river port (867 thousand tons in 2020 against 905 thousand tons in 2019, -4%), which was due to a decrease in demand for metal products in world markets during a lockdown due to the pandemic. Traditionally, Zaporizhstal used to ship rolled products and cast iron to Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Romania, Albania and Italy along the river. For the first time in 2020, Zaporozhkoks dispatched 6.5 thousand tons of pitch to Turkey through the Zaporizhzhya river port to its consumers.
As Alexander Mironenko, General Director of Zaporizhstal, noted in his exclusive interview with the Interfax news agency, river transportation of the plant's products makes up 34% of all exports. “But in the peak months in summer it even reaches 47%. River transport is interesting to us, it is effective, especially in the context of the voiced problems with the transportation of Ukrzaliznytsia. And we plan to increase the volume of cargo transportation not only through the port of Zaporozhye - in the winter time we will use the ports of Kherson, Nikolaev and others ", - said the CEO.
Zaporizhzhya metallurgists plan to resume shipping their products with the start of navigation in 2021 - from March 1.
