"the container transport Market in Ukraine demonstrates positive dynamics of growth in average 13-15% annually. Accordingly, the growth in container traffic is happening on the railway. So, for the first 4 months of 2020 rail in block trains carried 90 thousand TEU (TEU or twenty-foot equivalent unit), which is more than 2 times the volume of traffic over the same period of 2019. The development of railway container transportations in Ukraine has to be one of the main lines of Railways, but it also should not be chaotic. So today we are working on a development strategy of multimodal transport", - said acting member of the Board of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsya".
Roman Warecki also added that the strategy aims to address a number of issues for further development of container traffic.
"the Market of multimodal transport has great potential. However, for further development we need to solve the issues related to the renewal of rolling stock, the construction of a network of intermodal terminals and technical equipment of existing terminals. This is the key areas on which we are working in development strategy," - said Roman Warecki.

"2 800 000 TEUs of cargo, which is an optimistic scenario, which is incorporated in the development strategy of "Ukrzaliznytsya" for the years 2019-2023. I think that it is quite achievable figures," - said Roman Warecki.

In 2019 in Ukraine there were more than 348 thousand TEUs of containerized cargo. However, the composition of container trains last year carried more than white 163,3 thousand TEUs of containerized cargo, which is 71% higher than in 2018.
