President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree that put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of April 2, 2021 "On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions).
With this decision, the NSDC supported the proposals made by the Security Service of Ukraine on the application of personal special economic and other sanctions for up to ten individuals for a period of three years.
The decision of the NSDC provides for the application of sanctions to suspected smugglers, including the blocking of assets and property of persons "who, according to the analytical data of the SBU, the NSDC apparatus, can be called the top ten Ukrainian smuggling."
The sanctions also included 79 companies, the list of which is published on the website of the President of Ukraine. In particular, measures were introduced in relation to Rossotrudnichestvo, Volga-Dnepr and 77 other Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Lithuanian enterprises.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called smuggling "economic terrorism against Ukraine", since according to experts' estimates, losses due to smuggling reach 300 billion hryvnia.
In the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to inform the competent authorities of the European Union, the United States of America and other states about the application of sanctions and to raise before them the question of introducing similar restrictive measures.
