Rinat Akhmetov's energy holding DTEK has launched the first industrial lithium-ion energy storage system (SNE) in Ukraine with a capacity of 1 MW and a capacity of 2.25 MWh. Battery installed in the city of Energodar, at the site of the Zaporizhzhya TPP and is intended for the accumulation, storage and delivery of electricity to the grid, as well as for the provision of services to ensure the reliability of the energy system of Ukraine. This is a pilot project of DTEK to find optimal models for the operation of solar power plants in various segments of the country's energy market.
“The modern energy industry should become a driving force for the growth of the Ukrainian economy and the well-being of every Ukrainian. The launch of the first industrial energy storage system is our contribution to the future of the country's energy sector. With this project, DTEK opens a new market in Ukraine - the market for energy storage systems. It is energy storage units that are the key to the energy security of our country, as well as a new growth point for the Ukrainian energy sector, ”said Rinat Akhmetov, owner of DTEK.
In the near future, DTEK will certify the system to obtain the status of a service provider for providing capacity reserves for the system operator. This will be the first lithium-ion battery in Ukraine, ensuring the systemic reliability of the country's energy system.
As reported, DTEK signed a contract with the American company Honeywell for the supply of an energy storage system in July 2020.
