The Ukrmetallurgprom Association of Enterprises has updated data on steel production and resources consumed in the country's metallurgical industry in January - May 2021.

Ukrainian metallurgical plants increased production of rolled metal by 8%

According to the updated data of the Ukrmetallurgprom SE, in January-May 2021, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine produced:

  • agglomerate - 14.03 million tons (107.8% versus January-May 2020);
  • gross coke (6% ownership) - 4.11 million tons (102.2%);
  • pig iron - 8.90 million tons (109.1%);
  • steel - 8.99 million tons (108.3%);
  • rolled products - 8.02 million tons (108.0%);
  • pipe products - 0.39 million tons (115.8%).

As of June 10, 2021, of the main operating production facilities, 18 out of 21 blast furnaces, 7 out of 8 open-hearth furnaces, 14 out of 16 converters, 5 out of 15 electric furnaces and 16 out of 17 continuous casting machines are in operation.

Provision of production with basic raw materials and energy resources

Iron ore raw materials (IRR):

Provision of metallurgical enterprises with Ukrainian iron ore raw materials in January-May 2021 was carried out in accordance with the needs of metallurgical production. No iron ore was delivered on import.

Iron ore exports for 5 months of 2021 amounted to 18.54 million tons (98.2% compared to the same period in 2020).

Coking Coals:

For 5 months of 2021, 5.64 million tons of coking coal were supplied to Ukrainian coke-chemical enterprises (105.4% compared to January-May 2020), of which:

  • of Ukrainian origin - 1.64 million tons (108.6% compared to the same period in 2020);
  • imported - 4.00 million tons (104.2% compared to January-May 2020).

The share of imported coals in the total supply in January-May 2021 amounted to 70.9% against 71.8% in the same period in 2020.

Cox:

The total volume of coke produced by metallurgists in 5 months of 2021 amounted to 3.424 million tons (101.8% compared to the same period in 2020), of which:

  • Ukrainian origin 3.346 million tons (100.3% compared to the same period in 2020);
  • imported - 0.068 million tons (453% compared to January-May 2020).

The share of imported coke in the total supply for 5 months of 2021 amounted to 1.99% versus 0.45% in January-May 2020.

Imported scrap metal:

In January-May 2021, 1,500 thousand tons of scrap metal were procured (134.8% compared to the same period in 2020), of which 1,354 thousand tons (123.5% against January-May 2020) were supplied to Ukrainian consumers as imported.

Exports of scrap metal in January-May 2021 amounted to 146 thousand tons (887% compared to the same period in 2020).

Natural gas and electricity:

For 5 months of 2021, domestic metallurgy consumed about 800 million cubic meters. meters of natural gas (108.8% relative to January-May 2020).

Electricity consumption by metallurgical enterprises for 5 months of 2021 amounted to about 4.74 billion kWh (104.2% compared to January-May 2020).
