According to the Ukrmetallurgprom association of enterprises, in January-May 2021, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 8.02 million tons of rolled steel (107.98% relative to January-May 2020), of which, according to V.S. K. GROUP, exported about 6.59 million tons, or 82.1%. For 5 months of 2020, the share of exports amounted to 83.5% (6.21 million tons with a total production of 7.43 million tons of rolled metal).
The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for 5 months of 2021 accounted for 46.38%, which is lower than the indicator for the same period in 2020 (49.74%). The share of flat products in export deliveries in January-May 2021 is noticeably higher than in January-May 2020 (38.08% and 32.05%, respectively). The share of long products in export supplies for 5 months of 2021 is inferior to the indicator for the same period in 2020 (15.54% in 2021 versus 18.21% in 2020).
In January-May 2021, the capacity of the domestic market amounted to 1809.7 thousand tons of rolled metal, of which 377.7 thousand tons, or 20.87%, accounted for imports. In January-May 2020, the capacity of the domestic market was 1,659.7 thousand tons, of which 434.7 thousand tons, or 26.19%, were imported. Thus, for 5 months of 2021, there is an increase in the capacity of the domestic market for rolled metal products by 9.04% compared to January-May 2020 with a simultaneous decrease in the share of the import component by 5.32%.
The structure of imports in January-May 2021 is characterized by a significant domination of flat products over long products (54.73% and 43.13%, respectively); in the same period of 2020, the dominance of flat products over long products was not so noticeable (50.98% and 47.20%, respectively).
The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-May 2021, according to V.S.K. GROUP, are the countries of the European Union (33.7%), other European countries (21.3%) and South America (10.7%).
Among metallurgical importers for 5 months of 2021, the first place is taken by the CIS (45.1%), the second by the EU-27 (23.1%), and the third by Asian countries (15.6%).
